Once there was a young girl named Lucy. Lucy lived with her two kind parents. Her parents were very busy people and Lucy was normally sent to her Grandfather’s house. That was when she found, The Magic Window. Here's how the story went…
One day when Lucy was sent to her Grandfather’s house, she went to talk to her Grandfather. She talked to her Grandfather for a while until he fell into a deep sleep. He started to snore. Lucy tried not to giggle. But she just had to let it out. Luckily her Grandfather didn’t wake up.
She was very bored, so she decided to go upstairs in the attic where her Grandfather had never allowed her. She walked slowly up the creaky stairs and entered through the door. Now she was in the attic. She went to look around at all the paintings and books. Then her eye caught sight of a shiny door on one of the walls.
She opened the door carefully. Now she was in an empty room. The room was made of pure brick except for the one window in the middle of the room. Spiders crawled up the walls. She wanted to leave. She turned around to leave the room. But when she turned around the door had turned into brick wall. She looked out the window starting to panic. But then she knew exactly what to do. She was going to slide down the drain pole.
She got a hold of the latch on the window and pulled and pulled. Then finally the window opened. Now she was getting scared. Lucy was afraid of heights. But she knew she had to do it. She slide down the drain pole. As soon as she got out of the window things changed.
She was wearing new clothes. She wore a mask that looked like a bird, a sack with a book, notebook and pencil, and a costume made out pure feathers. Then she knew what she was! She was dressed to be a bird! She took off the sack on her back, opened it gently. She picked up the book and started to read it. It read, "This is the great Carnival. It is located in Rio de Janeiro. People dress up and head to the main part of the city. "
Then Lucy took out a small note. The note looked very old. It was stained up and down the edges of the page. It was burnt around the words and nothing of the paper remained white. The paper had a message on it. The message looked old like the paper. The message said,
Follow the river to the Carnival.
Once you are there find the old writer.
She will lead you to the lion.
The lion will fly you over the sea.
You must find the magic of the stars and bring it to me.
While you’re at it, find the key.
The key is not to unlock,
But the key is friendship.
So find the key,
To lead you back up the drain pole to me.
Use the gift wisely,
And never ask for magic.
The magic will come to you.
Good luck.
Yours truly,
The Great and Powerful L.
Underneath the note was a small little leather bag. Lucy opened the bag to have a look. As soon as she opened it she gasped. It was fairy dust! Then she remembered the note. She had to follow the river to Carnival.
She walked along the river’s edge. The water from the river gushed over the side and sprayed Lucy and many other people. As soon as Lucy’s costume was wet the feathers started to droop. Lucy heard other people complaining how the water made their costume wet. Lucy walked and walked until she reached the Carnival.
People crowded the area as she walked in. She knew she was in Carnival. Everyone was crowding an old women. People handed books to her and she handed books to people. She had a black pen in her hand and she was signing books. Lucy walked up even closer. Then it hit her! That was the old writer the message had talked about. Lucy had to get to her and she didn’t want to waste any time. She started to walk up through the crowd to see the old writer. She pushed her way in the crowd. Lucy even knocked a few people over. Lucy walked and walked until she reached the old women.
As soon as the old writer’s eyes met with hers they started to twinkle. They stared at each other for a moment and then the women signed one more book. She soon left the crowd. She took Lucy away into a small shop under a huge tower. She locked the door and stared in Lucy’s big eyes. Lucy was scared. Was the women mad at her? Did she do something wrong? Did her costume fall off? Was going on?
The women opened her mouth. But shut it again. She brought Lucy to the back of the room. She unlocked another door. The door lead to a flight stairs. She started walking up. She told Lucy to follow. When they got to the top of the stairs Lucy’s eyes sparkled at the site. It was a stone lion. The old writer told her the legend and how the lion needed fairy dust.
Then Lucy remembered her fairy dust. She pulled it out of the sack and sprinkled the dust on the lion. Then the lion roared, turned to colour and started marching across the room. The old writer sat her on the back of the lion and soon they were off!
She flew over the stars trying to catch the magic of the stars, like the note said. She held her bag of fairy dust out to the sky. The bag started to glow! She had caught the magic of the stars! She held the bag tightly. Friendship? How could she get the key to friendship? She decided to talk to the lion about that. Soon the subject changed. They were retelling the story of how the lion turned to stone in funny ways. The lion and her laughed and giggled all night.
Then they were there. At the drain pole. Where was the key to friendship? She looked up at the lion. Then she realized he was the key to friendship. She said a sad goodbye and went up the drain pole. She opened the door and went down the attic stairs to see her grandfather still asleep.
